Treat Yourself to a Fancy, Completely Free Opening Reception Next Thursday
Get lost in an ethereal world when you check out the latest exhibition to hit Dimmitt Contemporary Art. Next Thursday, June 13th, the gallery presents an opening reception for “Naked Skies,” a solo exhibition of paintings by artist Robert Roth. Following Roth’s 2018 exhibition “Recent Landscapes,” the painter returns to present some of his newest works with extraordinary focus on skies. Don’t miss it next week!
Robert approaches his work by inventing from nature. He combines a variety of textures and shapes blended with quick brush strokes to achieve a sense of lost and found. Throughout his travels, he is always recording from life. Roth is also particularly inspired by the likes of Degas, Vuillard, Diebenkorn, and Picasso.
In Roth’s estimation, skies are a forceful element in nature, which allow him great compositional variety in handling form and color. He has spoken of their sense of vastness, and his fascination with this infinite quality is evident in horizon lines placed low in his compositions, which are dominated by images of clouds and hazy atmosphere. Throughout the canvases, the viewer sees Roth’s adeptness at suggesting light, both atmospheric light in the top registers, and reflected light at and below the horizon lines. The blending and layering of lighter toned pigments help to create this effect, as well as to evoke mood, with visual harmony as a primary feature.
