Witness an Avant-Garde Art Installation During the Now We See Through a Glass Darkly Exhibit
Sawyer Yards Houston is proud to present For Now We See Through A Glass Darkly! This is a collaborative exhibition between Emeric Tchatchoua and Joyce Lin. Explore their creation for yourself when you make plans to hit this exhibit on Saturday, August 3rd.
Tchatchoua and Lin’s works explore ideas about dreams and remembrance in a series of sculptural furniture objects made by carefully encasing antique European-style furniture in light blue frosted acrylic. The trapped furniture remains forever on display, a hazy, frozen shadow of its former self, even as the acrylic paradoxically adds renewed function and stability to the aging structure. This collaborative work merges themes of history and surrealism found in both artists’ work and embraces a blurring and overlapping of old and new, illusions, and reality.
Emeric Tchatchoua is an artist and the founder and creative director of 3.PARADIS, a men’s fashion line based in Montreal. Growing up in Paris during the early 2000s, he discovered Japanese fashion through the Internet in 2004. In 2008, he moved to Montreal, Canada and attended ESMM Fashion School two years later in 2010. In 2013, after three years, he decided to pursue the launch of his own label 3.PARADIS, a menswear ready-to-wear fashion label that produces finely crafted clothing pieces.
Joyce Lin is an artist and designer passionate about making interactive sculptures and functional objects as a mode of exploration and play. She works with a wide range of mediums including wood, plastics, and upholstery to create surrealistic objects that explore questions about the material, form, and the ever-shifting relationship between humans and their environment.
For Now, We See Through A Glass Darkly will be on display through September 21. Admission is free. Come explore the creative works of Emeric Tchatchoua and Joyce Lin at Sawyer Yards this Saturday!
